About

Why hello there! My name is Seth and I’m the SoCal native in SoCal Native Seeds & Plants. But also the seeds and plants are also the… SoCal… natives. It’s uhhh… super clever wordplay. So clever I have to explain it. Explain that I’m a SoCal native selling SoCal natives. And I guess this is also a PSA on the dangers of writing an About page at 2 a.m.

SoCal Native Seeds & Plants is not some big corporation or organization, a faceless business, or even a small group of employees; it’s just me, Seth (in case your forgot from the first paragraph). SCNS&P (I got tired of typing the whole thing) is a business only so far as is legally required by the state of California for sales tax purposes.

I’m just trying to stress that I am SCNS&P and SCNS&P is me. When you send an email, it’s me who reads and responds to it. When you place an order, it’s me who fulfills it and takes it to the post office. (It’s the amazing people at USPS who work very hard and fast to get it to your house, though!) I’m the one hand-picking the seeds, separating them from chaff, then packaging and labeling them. I’m planting the seeds and watering the sprouts and transplanting them to bigger pots. I’m designing the website (very much a work in progress) and making the logos and art. I’m taking the pictures, shooting and editing the videos, and writing the blogs and news articles. It’s a full-on one-person endeavor.

So when you contact me or see me at an event, feel free to just say, “Hey Seth,” instead of, “Hey SoCal Native Seeds & Plants.” Because that is too long to say.

What’s the goal of SCNS&P?

Over the past several years, I’ve very much gotten into native planting for both the aesthetics ([most of] these plants are beautiful!) as well as for ecological conservation.

My aim with SoCal Native Seeds & Plants is to take others on that journey with me, to educate about the importance of biological conservation in Southern California, inspire others to switch to gardening and landscaping with native plants, and to teach people how to best plant, care for, and maintain their native plants. All while providing a trusted source to purchase seeds and plants.

I don’t want to try to be a “personality” or a “business” or anything like that. It’s easiest for me to just be me. So if I come off as unprofessional, that’s probably because I am not a professional. But hopefully I come off as affable and trustworthy, because that’s the vibe I’m going for.
